A list of necessary and quality goods that you would not be ashamed to bring from India.
- Spices. Of course, spices should be bought where they grow. Never take them at markets from open bags. In touristy places, they put spices in bowls and put them on the counter. They can stand there for months, covered in dust. You can find good spices on weight in specialized departments (ask the locals, where they buy for themselves) or in regular supermarkets. Ironically, pre-packaged spices in boxes are of excellent quality and low prices (from $0.3 (Rs. 20). The main thing is to look at the expiration date, fresh spices are the most flavorful.
- Coconut oil. Sold in any store in containers ranging from 50 ml to 1 liter. Blue bottles of Parachute, Paradise and other brands are in every storefront. You can also find homemade oil. These are usually sold in one liter containers and cost a bit more. This oil is suitable even for cooking, but it keeps much less than packaged.
- Medicines. India is the home of Ayurveda. Such a large number of herbal supplements and medicines can’t be found anywhere else. In addition to the well-known company Himalaya, many other pharmaceutical giants make powders and pills for health. For example, now a very popular product brand Patanjali. If you have decided to take charge of your health, visit an Ayurvedic doctor, and he will appoint a course of treatment for you. Traditional medicine is no less developed in India. This is where the largest number of medicines in the world is produced! Indian medicines are of high quality and low price. Many compatriots buy local analogues of our drugs several times cheaper than in their home country. Pharmacies in India are literally on every corner.
- Cosmetics. Any large store will offer you a huge range of natural cosmetics. The most popular brands are Himalaya, Khadi, Swati, Jovees, Biotique, Pond’s. These jars are cheaper than the ones we have here. The composition of creams and masks is much nicer.
- Kashmir Pashmins. In the northernmost state of India make shawls and stoles of natural wool, cashmere and silk. Products are sold in any Indian city. It is necessary to bargain when buying, but keep in mind that natural cashmere cannot cost $3. It’s easy to run into a fake and get viscose instead of silk.
All of these goods can be taken out of the country without any problems. The total weight of luggage depends on your airline. As a rule, charters provide up to 20 kg and 7 kg of hand luggage. Local airlines are not so generous – no more than 15 kg of luggage. Check the information before departure to avoid getting into trouble with overweight.
